Santa Fe Opera

Here’s the dramatic setting for the open-air Santa Fe Opera, nestled between the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the west and the Jemez Mountains to the east.

Who would think that a 2,128 person open-air opera venue would have such amazing visual and acoustical qualities? I learned that all mechanical equipment was placed out of sight of the audience and that acoustically absorbent stucco and ceiling surfaces were used to minimize any distortion in the reflection of sound from the performances as well to minimize the sounds from nearby roadways.

My many thanks to my mentor Beth Strutzel who took me to the Marriage of Figaro while I was participating in the International Folk Art Market (IFAM). I am also so grateful to her for all her encouragement and daily support with our booth during IFAM.
