amu: weaving together arts, cultures and communities

Maki is an executive director of a non-profit organization, amu: weaving together arts, cultures and communitiesAmu, from the Japanese word meaning to weave, envisions a future where traditional arts are a vital civic thread. We hope to celebrate, preserve, integrate and adapt long traditions to enrich diverse communities. We envision active community leadership roles for artists, chefs, writers and performers through practice, collaboration and teaching. By elevating creative and minority voices we see a future that is more equitable, heart-driven and resilient for the lasting benefit of all community members.

Maki also offers a variety of hands-on workshops including kintsugi and nuitsugi — inviting participants into deep reflection through tactile practice where act of repairing or mending becomes a mirror for personal insight and transformation.
