
She wore my kimono by Itchiku Kubota, a Japanese textile artist and most famous for reviving and reinventing a lost late-15th- to early-16th-century textile dyeing technique known as “Tsujigahana.”
My mother took me to a kimono exhibit in Sendai, Japan when I was 16 and I chose this kimono for my own coming of age celebration.
It had never been worn since I was living in the United States when I was 20.
